26/1/2011 - EFSA opinion on processed animal protein (PAP) safety
The European Food Safety Authority have recently published an opinion on “A quantitative risk assessment (QRA) of the BSE risk posed by the use of processed animal proteins (PAP) in animal feed.
The opinion concludes that the re-authorisation of non-ruminant PAP for use in non-ruminant feeds poses a negligible risk to the European cattle population. The opinion also emphasises the need for control tools to be in place, prior to considering any legislative change.
